voodoo hoodoo mountain bike 2014 Review From Halfords

I purchased from Halfords, Yes i know Halfords those people we trust to PDI our children’s bikes and don’t get it right every time but i will go into that later in this post but at the end of the day  Voodoo only distribute through Halfords, so i was stuck really

So what made me buy one, well i did research as i was moving away from my road bike to off road, so i wanted something that would be good on road and off road and i believe at the time this was the answer.

My main criteria was that it needed to be reasonably with lockout forks and a good gear set.

So what else did i look at before making my choice. I looked at many many bike from Argos to local stores in St Albans the other mounting bike that ticked all the boxes was a Specialized Rockhopper 29er with its positive reviews i thought this could be the bike for me but with its £650 price tag it was a big purchase. Then i came across some reviews online that mentioned it was not as sure footed as some proclaimed. At this point i came across the Voodoo range and allot of people raving about the pedigree behind the design. These bikes are designed by Joe Murray, five times champion of the rockhopper race.

Voodoo Hoodoo 2012 MBR review

I was really interested in the Voodoo Hoodoo but some people had pointed out that the 2014 model had been downgraded it no longer had the 120mm suntour Raidon X1 forks with remote lockout but this is the biggest change. There were some big reviews online especially from Bike Radar that had some wonderful things to say about the Voodoo Hoodoo and after going in to halfords and looking at what was on offer and at the price point i made my decision and parted with my £449.00.

The one thing i know i needed to do was to carry out my own PDI, just before i took it away from Halfords i asked the technician why the breaks had so much travel on the leavers, he said he did not know and he would get the manager to take a look. The manager came and was trying to take the travel out of the levers and he said he had done the best he could. So when i got home put it up on my maintenance stand i knew he had been adjusting the wrong grub screw on the breaks, so i found the right screw and adjusted them to remove %50 of the travel in the break leaver.

Halfords Poor Bike Check

Next i went over the entire bike and this is what i found.

On the gears the low and hi gear stops had not been set and the gears were derailing.

I found that the cables where they travel at the bottom of the crank were not placed in the plastic guides and  if i had not spotted it would have damaged the cable and the bottom of the bike.

Some break calliper nuts were not tight.

So over all nothing i was not expecting when you consider some of the Halfords staff get a half days training, and they never follow procedure. Not setting the gears correctly is kinda bike school 101. So ban on you Halfords stevanage.

One i was happy with my PDI check off out i went and boy first impressions were good, covered about 20 mile that day all road and locking out the forks really made a difference, a little road noise but i was expecting that but over all a very comfortable ride.

Day two was off road day and again i was so impressed the bike was shore footed and took everything that i could throw at it, it did not miss a heartbeat. I covered about 8-10 miles off road.

over all i could not have made a better choice this is the best bike i have ever owned and in the first week i have covered over 50 miles, you would not regret buying i can assure you but as you can only purchase this from Halfords make sure you can double check the bike or have a friend that does.
